Daniel Zamfir, nominated for the position of Minister of Economy, Digitalization, Entrepreneurship and Tourism, announced priorities for the automotive and furniture industries during hearings held on Monday by the Parliament’s joint committees.
Zamfir said the situation at Dacia was “very acute” and that he intends to visit the company next week, together with the Minister of Energy, to identify support solutions. He also announced support for the Rabla program for vehicles manufactured in the European Union.
For the furniture industry, where approximately 90% of production is destined for export, the official proposes that quality timber be supplied as a priority to Romanian manufacturers at competitive prices.
Measures included in the government program include reducing the administrative burden by at least 25% and authorization times by 30%. Zamfir also pledged that certain obligations owed to companies would be paid within a maximum of 90 days.
He warned that foreign direct investment fell by 62.5% in the first eight months of 2026 and announced an expanded role for ARICE, which he considers underfunded. The parliamentary committees issued a favorable opinion, with 48 votes in favor, 26 against and two abstentions.
