An investigation by Follow the Money reveals serious allegations that Damen Shipyards orchestrated the bankruptcy of the Mangalia shipyard through fictitious transactions and abuse of position. The company illegally transferred €55 million of the shipyard's assets and about 1,000 employees were laid off. Damen has influenced the insolvency proceedings and sued the Romanian state for €470m, while facing a criminal investigation in the Netherlands for corruption and other serious offenses.
