The former leader of PNL, Crin Antonescu, criticized the current leadership of the party, stating that PNL is treated as a "rescued" party, ignoring the contributions and reforms made over the years. In a message addressed on the occasion of the 151st anniversary of PNL, Antonescu described the event as a "self-flagellation meeting," emphasizing that the current team tries to present the party as being compromised until the emergence of new leaders. He highlighted important moments in the history of the liberals, such as the reforms during the CDR period, the introduction of the flat tax, and Romania's accession to the European Union, which are ignored in the current discourse.
Antonescu posed direct questions to Ilie Bolojan and Ciprian Ciucu, asking them about their absence during the controversial moments in the party's past and how they can distance themselves from it, considering they were part of the PNL structures. He denounced the sudden transformation of some former members of the political system into "reformers," believing that this is an attempt to reset the party's image through political propaganda.
