The municipality of Craiova has initiated the procurement procedure for 20 electric buses of 12 meters, along with 20 slow charging stations and 3 fast ones, as part of a project worth 50 million lei, funded through the Regional Operational Program (ROP) 2021-2027. The aim of this project is to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and to make public transport more efficient, thereby decreasing the use of personal cars. Romania has consistently invested in the purchase of electric buses in recent years, with an emphasis on Turkish suppliers due to competitive prices. Craiova has already made two previous purchases of electric buses, including 30 Solaris Urbino 12 units and 16 articulated BMC buses, and now half of its bus fleet is electric. This transition to electric transport is supported by European funds and regional budgets.
