Dan Buciu, one of the prominent figures of the Romanian Union of Composers and Musicologists, has died. Born in 1943, he graduated from the Bucharest Conservatory and obtained a doctorate in musicology. He was a professor and rector of the National University of Music in Bucharest, and was awarded numerous prizes, including the UCMR Grand Prize. His work, combining neoclassical and folkloric elements, includes symphonic and choral works, as well as educational volumes on music.
