George Simion, reported to the Council for Combating Discrimination after using the term "paraplegic" in an attack against Nicușor Dan: "He stigmatized a certain category" of vulnerable people.

The National Council for Combating Discrimination (CNCD) has launched an investigation against George Simion, following a complaint received on Friday, after the AUR leader used the term "paraplegic" referring to President Nicușor Dan, during a speech held at Azomureș on April 23.

The interim vice president of CNCD, Cătălin Raiu, stated for News.ro that Simion's statements stigmatize a vulnerable category, causing damage to the image of people with disabilities.

According to the procedure, CNCD is obliged to analyze the request and to give a verdict on whether it was a form of discrimination.

CNCD will analyze the case and decide whether it was a case of discrimination, with fines ranging from 2000 to 50,000 lei. The procedure could take up to two years due to a lack of staff. Simion has been criticized for similar statements in the past, and reactions from civil society and public institutions have been repeated. The AUR leader promised clarifications in a live broadcast scheduled for Friday evening.
