The College of Physicians in Romania (CMR) has proposed recognizing on-call activity as work experience, emphasizing that the effort of doctors during these periods is significant and must be accurately reflected in their professional trajectory. CMR also supports the payment of on-call hours according to current salary scales, to correctly assess the responsibility and complexity of the activities performed.
The proposal includes professional evaluations centered on medical acts, taking into account the difficulty of cases and the pressure of medical decisions. CMR recommends 12-hour shifts in units with complex pathology and emphasizes the need for the involvement of hospital management and local authorities to address issues related to on-call duties. The president of CMR, Prof. Univ. Dr. Cătălina Poiană, stated that these directions have been discussed with the authorities in recent months, highlighting the importance of responsible management of medical activity.
