Starting June 1, chronic and oncological patients will have the right to fully paid medical leave, according to the announcement made by the first vice-president of PNL, Nicoleta Pauliuc. She described the amendment as a correction of a "great injustice," mentioning that, through an amendment to the Government Emergency Ordinance no. 91/2025, the rule that deducted the first day of leave from the allowance has been eliminated.

The amendment, supported by several parties, will benefit patients included in the National Health Programs, patients with serious ongoing conditions, as well as those who require leave for pathological pregnancy or caring for a sick child. The Parliament has approved this amendment, and the President of Romania has promulgated the law, which will come into force on June 1, 2026. Pauliuc emphasized that it is unacceptable for patients who are fighting for their lives to be financially penalized by the state.
