CFR employees accused of taking bribes to reserve seats, thus affecting ticket sales, turned to ChatGPT for recommendations on how to build their defense. Conversations show that the employees were seeking information about the damage caused to the company and ways to justify their actions.
The group of 33 employees is being investigated by prosecutors for blocking seats in sleeping and dining cars, using the personal identification numbers of students who benefited from free rail transport, later selling these seats. During the hearings, some of them turned to ChatGPT for recommendations on how to build their defense.
The investigation was triggered after an article published in March 2024, and the searches took place on March 25, 2025. The employees allegedly accessed the CFR databases illegally, reserving seats and thus affecting ticket sales through other channels. They misled the authorities to obtain the value of travel tickets, causing a loss to the Ministry of Transport.
