The railway operator CFR Călători is facing a major crisis, as the accumulated debts to Electrificare CFR SA have led to the suspension of electric locomotive operations. From October 7, trains will be pulled exclusively by diesel locomotives, thus affecting the transport of passengers on short, medium, and long-distance routes. This measure will have a significant impact on the railway network, considering that approximately 40% of the railway infrastructure in Romania is electrified.
