The Constitutional Court of Romania (CCR) published on February 26 the reasoning behind its decision declaring the magistrates' pension project constitutional. The Presidential Administration recently clarified the necessary steps for the promulgation of the law, emphasizing that it can only be signed by the president after receiving the official communication from the CCR.
According to Article 77 paragraph (3) of the Constitution, a contested law can only be promulgated after confirmation of its constitutionality by the CCR. Judges in the country have requested, through the Courts of Appeal, the resubmission of the project to Parliament for reexamination, but now, with the CCR's decision, the law will be forwarded to the president for promulgation.
