The National Environmental Guard conducted an inspection in Bucharest, discovering that only 11.63% of waste is recycled, well below the legal threshold of 50%. Over 85% of waste goes directly to landfills without being treated. Authorities imposed fines of 430,000 lei, highlighting the need for a systemic solution to improve recycling, in a national context where the recycling rate fell below 10% in 2024.
