A British citizen, wanted internationally for smuggling 500 kg of cocaine into Great Britain, has been detained in Neamț County.

On May 14, 2026, police from the Directorate of Criminal Investigation in Romania, with the support of local authorities, arrested a 62-year-old British citizen, wanted internationally for drug trafficking. He is accused of bringing 500 kilograms of cocaine into the United Kingdom, for which British law provides for a maximum life imprisonment sentence.

The man formed an organized crime group that planned the drug transport in August 2024, using an inflatable boat to retrieve the delivery from offshore. After the arrest, the British citizen was presented to the Prosecutor's Office next to the Bacău Court of Appeal and incarcerated in the I.P.J. Bacău detention center, following the extradition procedures requested by the United Kingdom.
