Bogdan Ivan stated that it would take at least 45-50 days until fuel prices would significantly decrease even if the Strait of Hormuz were to reopen and oil tanker traffic returned to normal. He explained that oil production has decreased by 25% due to the blockade of the strait and the bombing of extraction facilities, while demand has increased due to consumer panic as they stock up.
Ivan emphasized that the price of a barrel of oil on the international market has reached double that of the period before the Middle East war, affecting not only fuel prices but also those of petroleum products, plastics, and fertilizers. He also mentioned that Romania has found new supply routes, including from French Guiana. The minister estimates that it will take a few weeks until lower prices reach the pump, after the conflict in the Persian Gulf has ceased.
