Beretta, the oldest European arms manufacturer, has confirmed its commitment to modernizing Romania's individual weaponry within the EU SAFE mechanism. It requests the Ministry of National Defense to conduct a transparent and rigorous selection process before any purchasing decision. Beretta emphasizes that the allocation of EU funds for programs that maintain external technological dependencies contradicts the purpose of SAFE, exposing Romania to strategic vulnerabilities.
Although Romania has obtained 16.7 billion euros in SAFE loans, no formal competitive procedure has been initiated. Beretta specifically requests complete specifications and allows all European manufacturers to submit technical proposals. The company offers local production solutions and technology transfer, ensuring compliance with SAFE requirements. Beretta remains open to collaborating with Romanian authorities to ensure a defense program based on genuine industrial partnerships and long-term sovereign capability.
