A bear was euthanized in Poiana Brașov after returning to the area of the Piatra Mare Hotel, where it had been captured and relocated last year. The Brașov City Hall announced that the intervention took place during the night, and the decision to euthanize was made by the intervention committee, which found that the animal had returned to the resort despite previous measures.
This situation is not unique, considering that bears are increasingly approaching populated areas in Romania. Hunter Dragoș Hârjoabă explained that the increase in the bear population and competition for territory causes younger individuals to move towards inhabited areas. He emphasized that relocation is not always an effective solution, as bears can return to the places from which they were removed, and encounters with humans could become more frequent.
