Former president Traian Băsescu stated on Sunday, at TVR INFO, that it is necessary to rationalize fuel from now on to avoid a future crisis.

Traian Băsescu emphasized that the main issue is not the price, but the assurance of fuel, warning that reducing prices is a major mistake. He explained that European interventions to cap prices could lead to a lack of imports, as traders might prefer to sell in other countries without restrictions, such as Bulgaria, which has lower excise duties.

Băsescu acknowledged the financial difficulties Romania is facing and suggested that the government should collaborate with the IMF to manage the budgetary situation. He emphasized the importance of leaving the market free to ensure the availability of fuel.
