Former president Traian Băsescu commented on Donald Trump's initiative to create a Council for Peace, considering it a "toy" meant to ensure him a global role, given his limited mandate in the USA. Băsescu mentioned that, although the initiative was validated by the UN, Trump seems to want a permanent structure with considerable financial resources, but believes that he has a misguided understanding of the current world order.

He emphasized the importance of a concerted position of Romania with the states of the European Union, stating that Europe is a priority, not external initiatives. Băsescu also criticized the way Trump manages funds, suggesting that he does not consult with European leaders about their use.
