Meteorologists warn of a significant risk of avalanches at over 1,800 meters in the Făgăraș and Bucegi Mountains, where the snow layer reaches 2.2 meters.

Meteorologists have issued a warning regarding the significant risk of avalanches (level 3 out of 5) in the Făgăraș and Bucegi Mountains, at altitudes over 1,800 meters. At the weather station on Vârful Omu, the snow layer measures 2.2 meters, and the recently fallen snow, of 15-20 cm, is on top of an older compacted layer.

Strong winds will contribute to the blowing away of the new snow and the formation of wind slabs, increasing the risk of avalanches due to the sliding of the fresh layer. Below 1,800 meters, the risk is low (level 1), with possible small flows or avalanches. In other mountain ranges, the risk is moderate (level 2), including in the Eastern and Southern Carpathians. Meteorologists recommend caution in these areas.
