The National Sanitary Veterinary and Food Safety Authority (ANSVSA) has instituted a 30-day internal quarantine for sheep and goats, following the confirmation of the Small Ruminant Pest (PMR) virus at a farm in Mureș County.

Strict emergency measures, approved throughout Romania, aim to rapidly isolate the sources of virus spread, considering that it loses its contagiousness within 21 days. The decision was issued by the National Committee for Emergency Situations (CNSU) and comes in a serious epidemiological context, where active outbreaks of African Swine Fever (PPA) overlap.

ANSVSA emphasizes that the PMR virus is not transmissible to humans and does not affect food safety, thus assuring consumers that food products remain safe.
