Andrei Bacalu, a prominent name in science journalism in Romania, passed away at the age of 86. He was a physician by profession but became known for his contributions to journalism, writing numerous books and articles, as well as memorable broadcasts. The peak moment of his career was the live transmission of the moon landing in 1969, when Neil Armstrong stepped onto the Moon, an event he translated and explained in real-time for the Romanian audience.

Throughout his career, Bacalu was noted in the scientific programs editorial team of TVR, being discovered by Tudor Vornicu. However, in 1983, the communist regime banned his appearances on screen, but his name remained well-known. After his ban, he moved to Israel, continuing his work in other fields.

TVR representatives stated that "Romanian Television is poorer" without him, highlighting the high standard of professionalism he maintained during a period of ideological restrictions. Marina Constantinoiu described him as a wonderful man, with a remarkable sense of humor and vast knowledge, leaving behind a significant impact on Romanian journalism.
