Clandestine cryptocurrency farm discovered in Satu Mare. The high electricity consumption gave away the tax evaders.

The inspectors of the General Directorate for Fiscal Anti-Fraud (DGAF) within ANAF discovered a clandestine cryptocurrency mining farm in Satu Mare County, which operated outside the fiscal circuit. In this location, 407 specialized devices generated a massive consumption of electricity, estimated at approximately 7 million lei between August 2025 and April 2026. The investigation was initiated following risk analyses that revealed discrepancies between actual activities and the data reported to the tax authorities.

Although the farm operated non-stop, no income was declared, suggesting the conduct of significant operations outside the tax records. ANAF confiscated the entire infrastructure, valued at over 2 million lei, and will continue checks to determine the value of undeclared income. Authorities emphasize that income from cryptocurrencies is subject to tax obligations, and actions to combat tax evasion in this sector will continue.
