Dumitru Chisăliță, the president of the Intelligent Energy Association (AEI), stated that almost half of the homes in Romania powered by natural gas have not undergone inspections and maintenance of their installations. This is due to the removal in 2011 of the obligation for inspections to be carried out by distribution operators, allowing consumers to choose any company authorized by ANRE.

Chisăliță emphasizes that human negligence, aging infrastructure, and lack of civic education contribute to the increase in the number of gas explosions. He proposes an integrated approach for the distribution and inspection of gas installations, similar to those in other European countries, to reduce risks and improve public safety. He also highlights the need for civic education to prevent gas-related accidents.
