A group of aerial targets was detected on the night from Saturday to Sunday near the river border with Ukraine, in the northern part of Tulcea County, by the radar surveillance system of the Ministry of National Defence.
The air defence systems were placed on alert in the northern part of Tulcea County, and the population was warned through a RO-Alert message sent at 00:10. The measures were instituted following a notification from the National Military Command Centre to the General Inspectorate for Emergency Situations.
Two F-18 aircraft of the Spanish Air and Space Force and an IAR 330 Puma SOCAT helicopter of the Romanian Air Force were prepared for takeoff as part of the authorities' surveillance and response measures.
The Ministry of National Defence stated that no intrusions into national airspace had been reported. The air alert was maintained until 00:42, when it ended.
The notification sent to the GIES enabled the alerting of the population in the northern area of Tulcea County, while the military structures monitored the situation and kept the forces ready to intervene.
By the time the information was transmitted, the authorities had not provided any additional details about the cause of the alert or the existence of any object identified near Romanian airspace.
