On January 27, 2026, the Local Center for Disease Control in Giurgiu convened in an extraordinary meeting following the confirmation of an outbreak of African Swine Fever in a private farm in the locality of Poșta, commune of Buturugeni. The adopted measures include the census of pigs, the disposal of carcasses, and the disinfection of the unit, in accordance with European regulations.

The affected area has been delineated into two: the protection zone, which includes the localities of Buturugeni, Poșta, and Ordoreanu, and the surveillance zone, encompassing several localities in the counties of Giurgiu and Ilfov. In these areas, strict biosecurity measures will be implemented to prevent the spread of the disease, including the management of carcasses through burial, in the absence of incineration. Authorities emphasize the importance of adhering to these measures to protect animal health.
