Ancuța, a 6-year-old girl, who entered into a cerebral death following an appendectomy performed at the County Hospital of Constanța, died Saturday evening at the 'Grigore Alexandrescu' Hospital in Bucharest.
The child's relatives accuse errors in the medical act, especially related to post-operative intubation, which allegedly led to a tracheal injury and subsequently to a pneumothorax. The family's lawyer requested the release of the entire medical file but only received part of the documents. Additionally, memoranda have been submitted to the Ministry of Health and the Medical College to investigate the case. The County Hospital of Constanța announced the initiation of internal investigations, and the Control Body of the Ministry of Health is investigating the management of patients. So far, no individuals from the medical unit have been officially sanctioned, pending the conclusions of the investigations.
