Of the total gross, 607.2 million dollars comes from international markets, while 370.2 million dollars comes from the North American market, starting with the April release. At its debut, the production earned 97 million dollars in North America and 217 million dollars globally.

The production stars Jaafar Jackson, Michael Jackson's nephew, and follows the artist's evolution, from his time in the Jackson 5 to his establishment as the "King of Pop".
Some critics have noted that the film presents a favorable perspective on the artist's life and does not address the sexual abuse allegations made against Michael Jackson in later years. According to Variety, the studio is considering continuing the story with a new film.
