Born in Spanish Harlem, Palmieri made his Carnegie Hall debut at age 11 and redefined salsa through his band La Perfecta. With an innovative piano style influenced by jazz and Afro-Caribbean music, he released hit albums such as "Azucar Pa' Ti". He won 10 Grammy awards and was recognized for his cultural contributions. The cause of death was not specified.
