In a bonus material from the event "A CNN & Variety Town Hall", Timothée Chalamet and Matthew McConaughey discussed how studios adapt films to fit the short attention span of audiences, who use their phones while watching. McConaughey noted that Act 1 is often cut, and the action starts earlier and earlier in scripts, sometimes even on page 12. Chalamet mentioned a Netflix directive suggesting the placement of important action scenes at the beginning of films, contrary to the tradition of saving them for the end. Although Chalamet acknowledges that some viewers prefer fast-paced rhythms, he believes there is also a desire for deeper and more engaging stories. He emphasized that Gen Z is becoming a major audience for cinema, highlighting the success of the film "Frankenstein," which did not have a fast pace but managed to attract the audience. Chalamet concluded by expressing the desire to keep cinema alive, without feeling constrained by current trends.
