Protests in Belgrade have gathered over 300,000 people, including students, demanding the resignation of President Aleksandar Vucic and early elections. He has been in power for 12 years and has been accused of links to organized crime and restricting media freedom. The protest was organized peacefully but police mobilized troops in the area. Vucic said "foreign powers" were behind the protest and promised that violence would not be tolerated. The protests began in response to a tragic corruption-related incident and activists continue to be detained by police.
