The Director General of the Consular Department, Oana Darie, has announced that the new consular fees could bring in about €39.8 million in 2024, of which €18 million from long-stay visas. The project aims to reintroduce fees for services such as travel documents and notarial deeds, eliminating fees for birth, marriage and death certificates. The new fees will support the digitization and streamlining of consular services, with the aim of making essential services free of charge. If the draft is adopted, it will take effect from January 1, 2024.
