On August 6-7, Bulgarian authorities carried out a large-scale enforcement action on the Bulgarian coast, targeting illegal parking in protected areas. Almost 90% of the offenders were Romanian tourists and problems were caused by lack of information and language barriers. Fines can reach up to 2,500 leva, and damaging sand dunes is considered a criminal offense. Checks will continue annually to protect the coastline.
