The FIFA President, Gianni Infantino, stated that Arsene Wenger's proposal for a new offside rule has promising prospects for being implemented in football. This law stipulates that an attacker should be considered offside only if their entire body exceeds that of the last defender, which could increase the number of goals. Wenger, FIFA's director for global football development, has already tested this rule in youth tournaments in Italy and Sweden. Official discussions about the "Wenger law" will take place at the IFAB meeting on January 20, 2026, and if an agreement is reached, the new rule could be applied from the next season.
