Vladyslav Heraskevych, the Ukrainian skeleton athlete who was disqualified from the 2026 Winter Olympics in Milan-Cortina after wearing a helmet featuring portraits of over 20 Ukrainians killed in the war, contests the decision. The International Olympic Committee deemed that this act violates Rule 50, which prohibits political messages or demonstrations in the competition area. Although Heraskevych wore the helmet during training, he was banned from participating in events.

The athlete has contested the decision and filed an appeal with the Court of Arbitration for Sport, arguing that the measure is disproportionate and that his gesture represents a tribute, not a political statement. He has requested the annulment of the disqualification and immediate reinstatement in competition, although the events are already underway.
