The death of Nemesio Rubén Oseguera Cervantes, known as 'El Mencho', the leader of the Jalisco New Generation cartel, has caused violence in Mexico resulting in at least 70 deaths. In this context, FIFA President Gianni Infantino stated that he trusts the Mexican authorities and that the situation will be monitored. Infantino emphasized that Mexico is a wonderful country, and the governments and police are responsible for ensuring order.

However, other nations, such as the Portuguese Federation and the Jamaican Federation, have expressed concern about the holding of scheduled matches in Mexico. The President of the Colombian Football Federation, Ramón Jesurún, stated that he is confident that Mexico will overcome this situation. The Mayor of Mexico City, Claudia Sheinbaum, assured that there are guarantees for the holding of World Cup matches, stating that there is no risk. Infantino added that the event will be an incredible celebration.
