David Parrish, a champion ultramarathon runner aged 35 from Dumfries, died while attempting to break the record for the fastest time on the Cape Wrath route, a 376-kilometer course between Fort William and Cape Wrath. A former marine, Parrish was found on Saturday evening in the isolated mountain area of Kintail, in the Highlands. The Scottish police stated that there are no suspicious circumstances and that his relatives have been informed.

An experienced runner, Parrish won the Cape Wrath Trail race in 2023 and had participated in ultramarathon competitions for several years. His last challenge was dedicated to raising funds for Scottish Mountain Rescue, in memory of his friend, Luke Ireland, who died in 2014. On his fundraising page, Parrish emphasized the importance of the mountain rescue team. The Dumfries Running Club described him as a champion and a perfect gentleman, leaving a significant impact on the running community.
