The 2025-2026 season of the National Basketball League kicks off on Wednesday with 16 teams, with the champion U BT Cluj entering the competition only from the playoffs.

The National Basketball League 2025-2026 starts on Wednesday, with 16 participating teams, and the champion U BT Cluj will enter the competition only from the play-off stage, a first in Romanian men's basketball.

The decision was made by FRB, with the agreement of the majority of the teams in the competition, at the request of the champion who plays in two strong European competitions, starting even from October 1: BKT EuroCup and the Adriatic League.

U BT Cluj will not have the home court advantage throughout the play-off stage.
