At 35, Sorana Cîrstea dropped to 138th in the WTA rankings after an early exit at the Montreal tournament, where she lost to Lulu Sun 6-3, 7-5. Fresh from the Iași tournament, Cîrstea did not adapt to the hard surface in Canada. Gabriela Ruse was also knocked out in the first round by Emma Răducanu without winning a set.
