Sorana Cîrstea had a promising start to the year, managing to surprise in the WTA tournament in Brisbane, where she qualified for the round of 16. The Romanian athlete defeated the Latvian Jelena Ostapenko 6-2, 7-6 (5), in a match that lasted one hour and 47 minutes. This represents Sorana's third victory in the seven direct confrontations with Ostapenko, with whom she has a close friendship.
