The senators adopted with 64 votes 'for', 33 'against' and two abstentions important amendments to Law 4, which regulates the organization of sports competitions. These amendments require clubs to continuously film supporters and to ensure video surveillance of participants' behavior in arenas. Additionally, the consumption of alcoholic beverages will only be allowed in certain areas, and pyrotechnic shows will only be permitted before and after matches. Spectators will be able to consume low-alcohol beverages, but not in areas with a direct view of the field during the event.
Clubs are obligated not to allow access to banned individuals and to provide the Gendarmerie with spectators' data to prevent violence. Sanctions for non-compliance with these rules include banning access to competitions for a period of up to 3 years and possible prison sentences for repeated offenses. The final decision regarding these amendments will be made by the Chamber of Deputies.
