World Boxing has announced that boxers from Russia and Belarus will be allowed to compete as neutral athletes, according to a decision made by the International Olympic Committee after the invasion of Ukraine in 2022. This measure follows the approval of the applications for membership from the boxing federations of the two countries. In competitions, national flags will not be used, and the anthem will not be played for gold medals. Boxers will be identified by the neutral athlete logo on their equipment and in TV graphics. Additionally, delegation members will not be allowed to display national symbols.
World Boxing will collaborate with a foreign entity to verify the athletes, ensuring that they have not supported the war in Ukraine and are not affiliated with the armed forces. The cost of the verifications will be borne by the national federations. The procedure applies immediately and includes international competitions, with the exception of athletes U19 or younger.
