Romania lead Indonesia 2-0 after the first two singles matches played on Friday in Jakarta, in the first round of Davis Cup World Group II. The “Tricolors” need just one more victory to seal the tie and take an important step toward qualifying for the next stage.
Cezar Crețu, ranked 271st in the ATP rankings, earned Romania’s first point after defeating Gunawan Trismuwantara, ranked 2,202nd, 6-2, 6-4. In the second match, debutant Radu Mihai Papoe, ranked 315th, beat Rafalentino Ali Da Costa, ranked 1,608th, 6-7 (5/7), 6-1, 6-2. The match lasted two hours.
Saturday will begin with the doubles match between Ștefan Horia Haită and Radu David Țurcanu, and Rafalentino Ali Da Costa and Ethan David Zapp, scheduled for 06:00 Romania time. The final two singles matches will follow: Cezar Crețu – Rafalentino Ali Da Costa and Radu Mihai Papoe – Gunawan Trismuwantara.
Romania are ranked 46th in the Davis Cup world rankings, while Indonesia are 65th. The two teams have never previously met in this competition.
