Romania has found its opponent in the semifinals of the playoff for the 2026 World Cup. Romania finished third in Group H of the qualifiers, where Austria, Bosnia, Cyprus, and San Marino also played. The Tricolors thus missed direct qualification but continue to the playoff due to the results in the Nations League.
Romania will play away against Turkey. If they qualify for the final, the Tricolors will play against the winner between Slovakia and Kosovo.
The semifinal matches will take place on March 26, while the final will be held on March 31 and will be hosted by the winner between Slovakia and Kosovo. Thus, Romania is required to win two away matches to reach the World Cup.
The playoff finals:
Turkey/Romania - Slovakia/Kosovo
Denmark/Northern Ireland - Czech Republic/Ireland
Ukraine/Sweden - Poland/Albania
Italy/Northern Ireland - Wales/Bosnia
