Romania defeated Ukraine 3-0 and qualified for the EuroVolley 2026 quarterfinals

Romania qualified for the quarter-finals of the European Men's Volleyball Championship after defeating Ukraine 3-0 on Sunday in the round of 16. The match was played at EuroVolley 2026, a tournament jointly hosted by Romania, Bulgaria, Finland and Italy.

The team coached by Sergiu Stancu prevailed after almost two hours of play, at the end of a match controlled by the Tricolours. Romania won the first two sets 25-22 and 25-21, while the match ended dramatically after a set decided in extra points, 30-28.

The victory is of major importance for Romania's national team, which overcame Ukraine, ranked 10th in the world, although the Tricolours were in 25th place in the international rankings before the match. Romania had previously achieved an important victory over France, the Olympic champions, in the final match of the group stage.

In the quarter-finals, Romania will face the winner of the clash between France and Portugal. The match is scheduled for Tuesday, September 22, at 16:00. The reigning European champions are Poland.
