According to the Greek publication Sport24, Panathinaikos is one step away from officially appointing Rafa Benitez as their new coach, with only the Spaniard's signature needed. Benitez is already in Athens to discuss the final details with the club's owner, Giannis Alafouzos. The club is prepared to offer an impressive salary of 5 million euros per year, with a contract for two and a half seasons.
Panathinaikos has had a less successful start to the season, currently sitting in 7th place in the league, but has made a good debut in the Europa League. Rafa Benitez, known for the trophies won with teams like Liverpool and Valencia, last managed Celta Vigo. This move could bring a new breath of fresh air to the Greek team.
