The President of the Romanian Olympic and Sports Committee, Mihai Covaliu, expressed optimism regarding the retention of the bronze medal obtained by Ana Maria Bărbosu at the 2024 Paris Olympic Games. The Swiss Federal Tribunal decided to send the case back to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) for re-examination, following an appeal made by American gymnast Jordan Chiles. Covaliu emphasized the importance of supporting Romanian athletes and the Romanian Gymnastics Federation in this endeavor, mentioning that Romania has won the first stage of this fight.
He also stated that all three athletes involved, including Chiles, deserve medals. The case was complicated by the challenges raised by the American delegation, and CAS initially decided that the medal remains with Ana Bărbosu. However, new evidence was presented, which led to the re-examination of the case. Covaliu stressed that it is essential to defend the rights of Romanian athletes and to maintain an atmosphere of fair competition.
