On the modest grounds of Grimsby, a team from the fourth tier of England (League Two) found themselves trailing 2-0 after half an hour of play, following goals from Charles Vernam (22nd minute) and Tyrell Warren (30th minute).
Bryan Mbeumo, one of the new signings for the club from Old Trafford this summer, reduced the deficit in the 75th minute, before defender Harry Maguire sent the match to penalties after finding the equalizer in the 89th minute.
The duel was decided dramatically in penalties, where we witnessed no less than 13 rounds, including the goalkeepers of both teams having to take shots, both converting successfully.
Mbeumo missed the 13th penalty, which meant a historic victory for Grimsby.
