Lamine Yamal, the team's superstar, was injured on April 22 and will miss Spain's first match, scheduled for June 15 against Cape Verde. Initial forecasts suggested he would recover, but it is now estimated that he will only play in the match against Uruguay on June 27. Additionally, Fermin Lopez suffered a metatarsal fracture and will undergo surgery, having minimal chances of recovering in time for the tournament. Luis de la Fuente will announce the national squad on May 25, and Spain will play two friendly matches before the World Cup, against Iraq and Peru. The team is placed in Group H, alongside Cape Verde, Saudi Arabia, and Uruguay.
