Maja Chwalinska has qualified for the Roland Garros 2026 final after winning against Diana Shnaider, score 7-6 (4), 6-4. The player from Poland, ranked 114th in the world before the tournament, needed just over two hours to achieve the most important performance of her career and will fight on Saturday for her first Grand Slam trophy. Chwalinska thus becomes the first player in history to reach the Roland Garros final from the qualifiers.
Having reached the main draw after passing through the qualifiers, Chwalinska has successively eliminated much higher-ranked opponents and has become one of the great revelations of the season. Now, she is just one victory away from one of the most spectacular performances in women's tennis in recent years. If she wins the trophy, the Pole will replicate the famous scenario achieved by Emma Raducanu at the 2021 US Open, when the Briton won the title coming from the qualifiers.
The athlete currently ranked 114th in the WTA has entered the Top 25 in the LIVE rankings and could reach as high as the 14th position if she defeats Mirra Andreeva in the grand final.
