Kylian Mbappé leaves Nike and signs with On in a surprise move that marks the Swiss brand’s entry into football

Kylian Mbappé, captain of the France national team and one of the biggest stars in world football, has signed a contract with Swiss sportswear manufacturer On, following a partnership with Nike that began at the start of his career. The announcement was made on Friday, and the value of the deal was not disclosed.

Through its partnership with Mbappé, On is officially entering the football segment. The French forward will contribute to the development and testing of future football footwear and equipment and will become a global ambassador for the company, including for projects related to movement, performance and design.

“I want to bring my experience and perspective to what we create, push boundaries through innovation and always remain true to the joy of football,” Mbappé said.

On also announced that Thierry Henry, a 1998 World Cup winner with France, is becoming its director of football. The company, founded in 2010 and best known for its running and tennis footwear, counts Roger Federer among its shareholders.

Mbappé’s departure represents a major blow for Nike, which had made him its leading football ambassador following Cristiano Ronaldo’s gradual withdrawal from the role. Nike nevertheless remains a partner of the French Football Federation until 2034 and has contracts with players such as Erling Haaland and Vinicius Junior.
